Happy Halloween!

Posted by lasta Friday, October 30, 2009

Hope you and all the little ones have a fun Halloween!
Before I sign off, I wanted to share this great idea from a client's house. She purchased a cool, vintage "Skeletal System" poster from Etsy. We then installed it in her entry as a spooky welcome for all those trick-or-treaters. I also couldn't resist posting this little cutie in such an adorable dress:)

A Creative Hero: John Saladino

Posted by lasta Thursday, October 29, 2009

As I was scrolling through the 1st Dibs' site this morning, I found a great article written about John Saladino's most recent book; Villa. In it he describes the arduous but heartfelt process of renovating an amazing Italinate villa. For all die-hard design lovers, this is a book that must be seen!
Saladino holds a very special place in my heart. He was the first designer I knew by name as a teenager, and his work awakened my true love of design. The photo above in particular stands out in my mind. Its been published many times over, I know; but its so timeless and beautiful. The color palette, mixture of textures, and use of antiques in an otherwise minimalist space influence the way I think about design almost every day. Ahhh, I could go on and on; but maybe the photos speak for themselves;)

A Must-See Open House

Posted by lasta Saturday, October 24, 2009

You're probably thinking I'm going to say this is some far off tropical island or something, right? Actually, this home is right in the middle of good ole' Houston. I had to do a double take and make sure that was right. Its so serene looking, who knew? If you are here in H-town, you can go see this beautiful place tomorrow (Sunday).

All the wonderful white is so alluring. Oh, I only need a little more than 1 mill and it can be all mine:)

Friday Favorite: Mary Kate McDevitt

Posted by lasta Friday, October 23, 2009

Its Friday, so lets remind ourselves to think positively. Personally, I am always working on that. As we all know, some days its a lot easier to get negative and gloomy. That's why I love Mary Kay McDevitt's uplifting illustrations. There great little reminders to keep your chin up:)
(Some of you may remember when I featured her former home here. Take a peek, its a fun place)
Hope all of you have a cheery weekend!

The Color Of Portugal

Posted by lasta Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Oh how I love finding something new! Although I have often read Interiors Magazine, I had never seen their website. Its amazing! You can scroll through the periodical online and see their amazing photos. See it here. The current issue features this Technicolor house in Portugal.

I think I will literally dream about this kitchen and these cabinets for weeks! Wow!!

I love that the interior of the home, although with very bright accents; is grounded with subdued neutral tones. (Unlike the exterior that is) I wish in America we could be much more bold with our color, like so many other parts of the world.

Did You Start The Rumpus?

Posted by lasta Saturday, October 17, 2009

I know, I know...one more blogger writing about this movie! I'm just really excited about it too:) I remember so clearly the first time I was introduced to this book. It was via a cool 80's show called Reading Rainbow. Anyone remember that? Anyway, the book captured my imagination instantly. I can't wait to see it. Hopefully, I can take Liam, but I'm debating it. He's only 4 and I'm never quite sure what will scare him and what won't. I've read the book to him a couple of times only because he said it was scary. Maybe I was a little too animated in my story telling...oops. If any of you have already seen it, I would like to get some feedback.
Two of my favorite articles about Where the Wild Things Are, can be found via Mocking Bird
and a blog I just found today called "We Love You So". I am very smitten with both of these sites. I found this adorable video there. These kids are having so much fun and I love their modern furniture too;)

Happy, Happy Birthday!

To me!! Yay!
I am one of those obnoxious persons who likes to tell everyone about my birthday! You know I want to wear a big button on my shirt that talks about it, or a birthday tiara. When I was a kid I never understood why I didn't get an automatic day off from school on my special day!
So, I am going to tell all of you about it today. Ha, ha! I am turning the big 34! It freaks me out a bit, because I've always imagined the threshold for being a "mature adult" as turning 35. Now I only have one year to really get my act together. Aahhh, I don't know if I'm ready!
To celebrate, I put together a wish list of gifts, for myself. I thought some of you might enjoy it also:)
I would take anything and everything from this shop. It was a struggle to keep it down to only three!
Funny enough, this month also marks the second anniversary of my blog. I am reminded how much I have loved getting to know so many wonderful people via this site. I appreciate all of you who stop in to check on me everyday:) I hope to keep writing this for a long time and I hope to get to know all of you more and more.
So thanks everyone!

Favorite Portfolio: Blacksheep Architecture and Design

Posted by lasta Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Hello all! I wanted to share two of my new obsessions. First, a very cool site called Houzz. Have you seen it? Its a blogger's dream come true. Basically, its a site where you can bookmark your favorite images, or post photos of your own work. Also, you can create your Idea books from all their images. Its so fabulous and inspiring!!

My second obsession is Blacksheep Interior and Architecture, found via Houzz. Their design is so crisp and creative. I had a hard time narrowing down the amount of photos I posted.

I'm developing my own ideabook. If any of you create one, let me know:)

If Anything Can Go Wrong...

Posted by lasta Friday, October 9, 2009

It probably will, and at the most inopportune moment. You know that saying, right? Uh, well that describes my week, quite well. I feel bad about not posting anything for an entire week, sorry everyone:(
Where to begin, about my week? First it started with no cable or internet for a couple of days. That alone is traumatic, let me tell you!! My lovely husband decided to move the cable connections around and told me the cable would be down for "a few minutes". Well, 3 or 4 hours later, we figured out that it was not coming back! Of course, at that point it was already evening, so when we tried to call for help we could only reach people with accents that are very difficult to understand, and who didn't really help in any way. So the three of us came to the harsh realization that there would be no vegging to our favorite shows and no internet surfing either. Aahhh! No reruns of The Office, no Dora the Explorer, no Twittering, emailing, blogging, NADA! Have you tried doing that lately? Its very hard, let me tell you.
Well, the next morning Mark calls me and says I need to expect a call from the repair man and I need to be at home. He is set to call at 9:00 in the morning. So I have just enough time to get Liam to school and rush back home. Around 10:30, I'm still waiting for the call and start worrying about the things I'm not getting done. At lunch time, I decide not to wait anymore, and gather all my things and start to walk out the door. Guess what happens at that moment? Yeah, my phone rings! The "9:00" call comes in at 11:45. So, I answer and you know what sage advice the technician has for me? "Why don't you unplug the box for a few minutes and then plug it back in". Like we hadn't already tried that about 30 times!!!! Since his technical help went nowhere, he now wanted to send a repairman. As I'm listening to this, I'm thinking "I've already wasted half of the day, now they're asking me to waste the other half. On the other hand, if I don't wait for them today; I will get to go through this process again tomorrow". I really didn't have a choice. Finally, by about 4:00 everything was up and running again and I was quick to remind Mark to let the experts move the connections around, for all of our sakes:)
After those two days, I spent a couple of days trying to catch up on work that couldn't get done sans an internet connection. I didn't realize how few people I actually speak to, or see in person. I do everything via my computer. Its kind of sad actually. I have also been trying to find flu shots for Liam, (everyone is running out), planning family affairs, blah, blah, blah. Sigh...what I really hate is that I never posted my Round Top photos. I am very happy with them, but they seem a little irrelevant now:( Here is a small peek. I will go ahead and post them on my Flickr site tomorrow...but again, I gotta run!
Happy Friday!

Friday Flickr Favorite

Posted by lasta Friday, October 2, 2009

Busy, busy, busy. I've been terribly distracted from blogging this week!! On the upside, I did make it to Round Top more than once! It was great, but now I'm very behind on all my work. To make up for it, I'm sharing some recent Flickr favorites. I see that they all seem to have a theme...movement. Hope you like:)

Click over to the rest of my Flickr Favorites to see these and more. Hope every one has a great weekend!
I'll be back on Monday with some of my own photos from my shopping excursion.
